Wirth_InstitutAmbassador Koviljka Spiric took part in the panel discussion - demining operations in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina - which was held on January 26,2015 in Edmonton at the University of Alberta. The panel was organized during International Week at the University of Alberta, which is traditionally held every year. Along with the University,this event was also organized by the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies in Edmonton. Contributing to the panel discussion were Mario Krpan, representative of the Canadian-Croatian Foundation for Demining and Major Mark Minenko who spent a year in the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The participants show cased in their presentations the problem with the presence of the mines in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, which are still there 20 years after the war. Ambassador Spiric talked about how Bosnia and Herzegovina faced, and are still facing this problem. She paid special attention to the Mine sweeping Strategy in 2009 - 2019, as well as the fact that lack of money is the biggest problem in the process of de-miningin BiH. Her Excellency also commented on the issue of the shifting of the mine fields after the flooding in May 2014, which further aggravated the situation.

Spiric has pointed out that Canada is one of the key countries that financially supports demining, and also expressed the expectation that it will continue in the future.
